Rose petals add that touch of romance and elegance to an event instantly.  One of my favorite weddings from last year, a couple gave away favors of rose petals that the bride kept from throughout their relationship.

Eco-Friendly Friday - Be Organized

I know, I know, you're thinking how could being organized help you to plan an eco-friendly event?  Let me explain.

One thing that I do as a planner is when my clients give me items that they want used at their events, I always make sure to create an itemized list of everything.  Included on this list, is whether or not they want items returned.  In some cases if they no longer want the items and it is something that can be re-used, I'll make arrangements to purchase them from the client.  This helps to ensure that reusable items don't get thrown in the trash.  At the end of the night, it is so easy for people (catering managers, venue employees,etc.) to just toss everything in the trash, instead of having to sort things out. 

Shameless plug:  This is also another good reason to hire a professional planner, because your planner will stay on the scene until the end to ensure that your items are packed up and returned to you!

While conducting one of my many internet searches, I decided to search for eco-friendly wedding dresses.  During my search, I happened upon Threadhead Creations.  This is what their website says about their company:

Eco-Friendly Friday

I always say that the invitation sets the tone of your event.  Whether it is a wedding, anniversary party or company function, the invitation can give you an idea if the event is formal or casual.  It also does not have to harm the environment. 

According to Do Something, an organization that educates youth about the benefits of conservation, for every ton of paper that is recycled, we save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 4,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, 7,000 gallons of water, and 60 pounds of air pollution from being released into the environment.  That's a lot!  With the variety of recycled paper available today, it is easy to find the one that fits your style.

Greening Your Event for Beginners

Planning a green or eco-friendly event is becoming more common place these days.  As concern grows about the over use and misuse of our natural resources, it is important that we all consider some ways that we can green our events.  This has become a big concern for me as well and I've begun to take steps to green my business and the events that I plan.  As part of these steps, Fridays will be devoted to tips on how to green your event. 

If you have already done most of your planning and your event date is near, you may think it is too late to green your event.  Not so fast!
