It never fails that every event I work on, after the event the client comes to me with the same statement. Maybe not the exact same statement, but it always starts out the same. "I thought the . . . "
I thought the photographer was going to take 20 family shots but he only took 5. I thought the caterer was going to keep refilling the appetizers during the whole cocktail hour. I thought the band was going to play continuous live music all night, but they kept taking breaks and playing recorded music. The list goes on and on.
One thing I always tell my clients is to be specific with all your vendors about what you want, need and expect. When you communicate these things to them have it detailed in your contract, word for word. It may seem tedious and some people shy away from it, because they don't want to seem too anal. Forget all that! It is your money and your event. Treat it like Burger King and have it your way! If you are too shy to get your wishes across, hire a professional planner who can make sure all your needs are carried out.
In the end, vendors aren't mind readers and no offense to any vendors out there, but most are only going to do what is outlined in the contract and that is it. Don't be left with thoughts of how you "thought" your event should have played out. Get it in writing and enjoy the memories!
Until next time, eventfully yours!
